Dynasty Warriors Origins: Choosing the Right Difficulty Setting

by Emery May 02,2025

Dynasty Warriors games are known for their hack-and-slash combat, yet they demand a certain level of skill from players. Dynasty Warriors: Origins acknowledges this by providing four different difficulty settings, enabling players to customize the challenge according to their skill level and experience. As a reboot, it introduces both new and returning players to a dilemma: selecting the optimal difficulty setting. The best choice hinges on the player's skill and desired level of challenge.

All Dynasty Warriors: Origins Difficulty Settings

Dynasty Warriors: Origins features four difficulty settings, though only three are initially available. At the start, players can select from Historian (easy), Wayfarer (normal), and Hero (hard). The Ultimate Warrior (very hard) difficulty unlocks after completing any of the three factions' main scenarios. While there is a Trophy/Achievement for conquering a battle on Ultimate Warrior, there are no difficulty-specific Trophies/Achievements for finishing the main campaign.

Which Dynasty Warriors: Origins Difficulty Setting is Best?

For newcomers to the action-adventure genre or those keen on focusing purely on the story, Historian is the ideal choice. Wayfarer suits the majority of players, including those with limited experience in Musou/Warriors games. Dedicated fans of the series might opt for Hero right away. However, Musou veterans might want to escalate to Ultimate Warrior upon unlocking it, to maintain a challenging gameplay experience as they tackle remaining missions, requests, and scenarios.

Players can adjust the difficulty between battles via the config menu without impacting the story, ensuring flexibility if the chosen setting feels too easy or too hard.

Difficulty Mode Differences in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

In Historian mode, all enemy attacks can be blocked, and it's easier to stagger enemies, gain bravery, and fill the Musou Gauge. On the other hand, Hero mode increases enemy strength and aggression, narrows the window for parries and perfect evades, and removes Meat Buns from enemy drops. Blocking in this mode also reduces bravery, limits the time to influence battles between allied and enemy armies, and slightly decreases the amount of Skill Points and gold earned. Ultimate Warrior amplifies these Hero mode challenges, with even tighter windows for parries and evades, and significantly reduced battle earnings.
