"Dune: Awakening Delay Extended by Three Weeks for Beta-Driven Enhancements"

by Emily May 20,2025

The much-anticipated open-world survival MMO, Dune: Awakening, inspired by Frank Herbert's iconic sci-fi novels and the cinematic adaptations by Denis Villeneuve, has been rescheduled for release on June 10, 2025. Developer Funcom announced this delay alongside an exciting opportunity for eager fans: those who opt for the Deluxe Edition or Ultimate Edition can dive into the game early on June 5.

The decision to postpone the launch stems from valuable insights gained during the Persistent Closed Beta. Funcom stated that the additional time will allow the development team to refine the game further, incorporating player feedback and implementing necessary enhancements. This delay also paves the way for a large-scale beta weekend next month, offering even more players a chance to experience Dune: Awakening and provide their input.

While the delay might be disappointing for some, Funcom is keeping the excitement alive with a combat livestream scheduled for today at 12pm ET/9am PT. This event will delve into the game's PvP and PvE mechanics, archetypes, and skills, providing a deeper look at what players can expect.

At IGN, our hands-on preview of Dune: Awakening left us thoroughly impressed. As we noted, "It's easy to be skeptical about an MMO survival game set in the Dune universe, but after enduring bouts of dehydration and sunstroke, my day spent in Arrakis convinced me that Dune: Awakening is one to watch."

For more information, be sure to explore the MMO's business model, post-launch plans, and the comprehensive gameplay trailer unveiled at Gamescom ONL last year. The anticipation for Dune: Awakening continues to build, and with these developments, the wait promises to be worth it.
