How Doctor Doom 2099 Functions in Marvel Snap

Doctor Doom 2099 is a 4-cost, 2-power card with a unique ability: After each turn where you play exactly one card, a DoomBot 2099 is added to a random location. These DoomBot 2099s (also 4-cost, 2-power) provide an ongoing +1 power buff to other DoomBots and Doctor Doom. This synergy extends to regular Doctor Doom cards as well.

Playing one card per turn maximizes Doom 2099's potential, generating three DoomBot 2099s for a significant power boost. Early deployment or strategic use of cards like Magik can further amplify this effect. Effectively, Doom 2099 can function as a 17-power card under optimal conditions.

However, there are drawbacks. The random placement of DoomBots can hinder strategy, and Enchantress can completely neutralize their power.

Top Doctor Doom 2099 Decks (Day One)

Doctor Doom 2099's one-card-per-turn requirement lends itself well to Spectrum-style ongoing decks. Here's an example:

Ant-Man, Goose, Psylocke, Captain America, Cosmo, Electro, Doom 2099, Wong, Klaw, Doctor Doom, Spectrum, Onslaught. [Untapped Deck Link Removed]

This budget-friendly deck (only Doom 2099 is a Series 5 card) offers flexibility. Early Doom 2099 plays, facilitated by Psylocke or Electro, allow for massive power distribution with Wong, Klaw, and Doctor Doom. Alternatively, Electro can set up powerful late-game plays with Onslaught and high-cost cards. Cosmo mitigates Enchantress's effect.

Another effective strategy uses a Patriot-style approach:

Ant-Man, Zabu, Dazzler, Mister Sinister, Patriot, Brood, Doom 2099, Super Skrull, Iron Lad, Blue Marvel, Doctor Doom, Spectrum. [Untapped Deck Link Removed]

This equally affordable deck (again, only Doom 2099 is Series 5) leverages early-game cards like Mister Sinister and Brood before transitioning to Doom 2099, Blue Marvel, and Doctor Doom. Zabu provides cost reduction for early plays. Flexibility is key; skipping a DoomBot 2099 summon allows for crucial two-card final turns. Super Skrull acts as a counter to other Doom 2099 decks. However, this deck remains vulnerable to Enchantress.

Should You Invest in Doctor Doom 2099?

While Daken and Miek (released alongside Doom 2099) are less impressive, Doom 2099 is a worthwhile acquisition. His power and deck-building affordability make him a likely meta staple. Use Collector's Tokens if available; however, don't miss out on this potentially history-making card, unless Second Dinner decides on a nerf.
