Days Gone Remastered $10 PS5 Upgrade Unavailable for PS Plus Game Redemptions
During Sony’s recent State of Play showcase, *Days Gone Remastered* was unveiled as a significant highlight. However, the announcement has stirred some discontent among PlayStation Plus subscribers due to the $10 upgrade policy for the remastered version on PlayStation 5.
Sony has specified that the $10 upgrade is exclusively available to those who already own the PlayStation 4 version, either through a disc or a digital copy. Unfortunately, this means that players who obtained *Days Gone* through the PS Plus subscription service, including the now-defunct PS Plus Collection and as an Essential monthly game in April 2021, do not qualify for the discounted upgrade. Instead, they would need to purchase the full PS5 remastered version at $49.99.
This decision has sparked a wave of frustration among PS Plus subscribers, leading to numerous discussions and complaints on platforms like the PlayStation Plus subreddit. Many subscribers expressed that they would have been willing to pay the $10 to experience the PS5 remaster but are now opting to forego the game entirely due to the full price requirement.
Comments from users such as squarejellyfish_ suggested that allowing PS Plus players to upgrade could have generated significant revenue, as many would be willing to pay $10 for a brief trial. Teckn9ne79 echoed this sentiment, stating they would pay for the upgrade but not for a full purchase, preferring to stick with their current version. Dredizzle99 criticized the decision as "pretty stupid," pointing out that many PS Plus owners would have considered the upgrade but not the full price, potentially leading to lost sales for Sony. Jackanyon95 highlighted the missed opportunity, noting that Sony could have gained an additional $10 from each PS Plus owner but chose to exclude them instead, questioning the necessity of a remaster.
Some PS Plus subscribers, while disappointed, are not entirely surprised by Sony's approach, acknowledging that the company likely made this decision based on financial calculations. Despite this, Sony is facing criticism from its dedicated fanbase, who are labeling the move as "stingy" and had hoped for a more generous policy from PlayStation.
