"Dan Slott Returns to DC with Superman Unlimited"

by Brooklyn May 17,2025

DC Comics has announced the launch of Superman Unlimited, a new monthly series set to debut in May 2025. This exciting series marks the return of acclaimed writer Dan Slott to DC Comics, after spending the last two decades exclusively with Marvel. Known for his work on Marvel titles such as The Amazing Spider-Man, She-Hulk, and Fantastic Four, Slott's earlier DC works include Arkham Asylum: Living Hell and Batman Adventures.

Joining Slott on this venture are artist Rafael Albuquerque, known for his work on American Vampire, and colorist Marcelo Maiolo. Slott expressed his enthusiasm about the project, stating, "He’s the first and the greatest superhero of all-time, and I’ve been waiting my whole life to tell stories about him... Rafael Albuquerque and I are going to take him—and you—to places you’ll want to escape to every month."

Superman Unlimited introduces a new and perilous status quo for the Man of Steel. After a Kryptonite asteroid showers the planet with Green K, Superman faces an unprecedented challenge as enemies like Intergang wield weapons powered by his greatest weakness. This forces Superman to develop new technology and crime-fighting strategies to navigate this dangerous new era. Additionally, Clark Kent will encounter changes at the Daily Planet following its merger with Morgan Edge's Galaxy Communications, transforming it into a global multimedia conglomerate.

PlayDC group editor Paul Kaminski likened **Superman Unlimited** to the impact of Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness's *Superman/Batman* series, saying, "Superman Unlimited will capture the big, fun, high-flying adventures that Superman is known for, while also providing big moments for DC’s Superman-related comics with the introduction of a massive new Kryptonite deposit."

Kaminski also drew a contrast between Superman Unlimited and the recently launched Justice League Unlimited, noting, "In contrast, Slott and Albuquerque’s Superman Unlimited is a tale of unlimited Super-Villains that are super-charged by Kryptonite. Green K is everywhere. Superman is going to need to get to work and adapt to survive."

The series will kick off with a 10-page prelude in the DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1, releasing on May 3, 2025, followed by the launch of Superman Unlimited #1 on May 21, just before the premiere of James Gunn's Superman on July 11.
