"Cosmo Jarvis Confirmed for Shogun Season 2, Set a Decade Later"

by Daniel May 23,2025

The acclaimed series Shōgun, which swept 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is set to return for a highly anticipated second season. According to an official press release from FX, Cosmo Jarvis, renowned for his portrayal of pilot John Blackthorn, will not only reprise his role but also step into the position of co-executive producer for Season 2.

Furthermore, Hiroyuki Sanada, who plays the lead role and signed on for the second season last May after the show's initial limited series success, has been promoted to executive producer. This follows his contribution as a producer during the first season. Production for Season 2 is scheduled to commence in Vancouver, the original filming location, in January 2026.

FX has described the upcoming season as "a wholly original new chapter" that builds upon the narrative from the first season, which was adapted from James Clavell's novel. The network provided insights into the plot connection between the two seasons, stating:

"In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) fought for his survival as his enemies in the Council of Regents united against him. When a mysterious European ship was found marooned in a nearby village, its English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis) shared vital strategic secrets with Toranaga that tipped the scales of power in his favor to win a century-defining civil war.

"Part two of Shōgun is set 10 years after the events of the first season and continues the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined.”

While fans eagerly await the new episodes, expected by the end of 2026, the anticipation continues to build for what promises to be another masterful season of Shōgun.
