Balatro Reaches Major Sales Milestone

Last year was a remarkable period for gaming, with many standout titles capturing the hearts of players and critics alike. Not only did it receive widespread critical acclaim, but this game, developed single-handedly by LocalThunk, also achieved extraordinary commercial success by selling over 5 million copies!

Just over a month ago, LocalThunk was celebrating the sale of 3.5 million copies of Balatro. Astonishingly, in the span of about 40 days, the game sold an additional 1.5 million copies. This surge in sales can likely be attributed to the "The Game Awards effect," a phenomenon that LocalThunk alluded to in a tweet.

Harvey Elliott, the CEO of publisher Playstack, hailed this milestone as an incredible achievement that deserved celebration. He expressed immense pride in both the developer, LocalThunk, and the dedicated team at Playstack.

It's evident that nearly a year after its release, Balatro is still thriving. This card-based roguelike continues to captivate its audience with exciting updates and collaborations, and it recently achieved a new personal record for peak concurrent players on Steam.
