Astro Bot Reveals Two Fan-Favorite Bots
Astro Bot has just received a major update, introducing five challenging new levels along with unique new bots to unlock. Notably, two of these bots are from a series that hasn't yet appeared in the game, despite holding a special place in the hearts of PlayStation fans.
If you prefer to avoid spoilers, we'll simply reveal that one bot can be rescued in the challenge stage called High Inflation, while the second becomes available only after clearing all five new challenge levels in the Vicious Void Galaxy and rescuing the other bots along the way.
Warning! All bot identities in this DLC will be revealed below the video. Stop reading now if you’d rather avoid spoilers!
These two new additions are Cloud and Sephiroth, iconic characters from Final Fantasy 7. Cloud is the reward for completing High Inflation, and Sephiroth is unlocked after conquering all five new challenge levels.
Final Fantasy, particularly the seventh installment, has been highly requested by the Astro Bot community. The base game launched with 173 cameo bots representing PlayStation’s rich history, making the absence of Final Fantasy 7—a title historically linked with the PlayStation brand—especially noticeable. When questioned earlier, Astro Bot developers indicated that publisher partnerships influenced the selection, implying Square Enix had not initially agreed to participate. It appears the publisher has since reconsidered.
Cloud and Sephiroth aren’t the only new bots in this DLC—they're joined by more Square Enix characters. Among them are 2B from Nier: Automata and Serge from Chrono Cross, both available to rescue. Atsu from Ghost of Yōtei is also included, though her appearance had been announced prior to this update.
Since its release, Astro Bot has enjoyed multiple special updates with new challenge stages. Team Asobi's ongoing support reflects the game's overwhelmingly positive reception. It sold 1.5 million copies in its first two months and earned a 9/10 score in our review. "Astro Bot is a brilliantly creative platformer on its own, but it feels especially magical for anyone who treasures PlayStation’s legacy," our reviewer noted.
