Anbernic Halts U.S. Shipments Due to Tariff Issues

by Harper May 15,2025

Anbernic, a leading manufacturer of retro handheld consoles, has announced a suspension of all U.S. orders due to recent changes in U.S. tariff policies. As reported by The Verge, the company advises customers to prioritize purchasing products from their U.S. warehouse, which remain unaffected by import duties. Unfortunately, orders that require shipping directly from China will no longer be processed.

Anbernic is renowned for producing affordable Chinese Game Boy clones, which are typically shipped from China upon release and later stocked in U.S. warehouses. Their website allows customers to choose between shipping from the U.S. or China. However, not all products, such as the Anbernic RG CubeXX and RG 406H, are available for U.S. shipment, meaning American players will face limited availability for these items.

The Trump administration's imposition of tariffs up to 145% on imports from China, with potential increases to 245% on certain products like electric vehicles, has led to rising costs. These tariffs are often passed on to consumers, affecting the prices of tech and gaming products, including Nintendo Switch 2 accessories and gaming laptops.

In response, Anbernic is actively seeking a solution for customers impacted by customs fees during this transitional period.

Meanwhile, Nintendo officially revealed the Switch 2 during a 60-minute Nintendo Direct earlier this month. Originally, pre-orders were scheduled to open in early April in the U.S., but tariff-related uncertainties in both the U.S. and Canada prompted Nintendo to delay the pre-order date to April 24. Despite the delay, Nintendo has maintained the $449.99 price for the Switch 2 console and games, though it has raised prices on most Switch 2 accessories.
