AMC Slashes Midweek Ticket Prices by 50% Starting July to Boost Attendance

by Hunter May 22,2025

Get ready, cinephiles! Wednesdays are set to become your new favorite day of the week, thanks to a groundbreaking announcement from AMC Theaters. Starting July 9, they're slashing their ticket prices by half on Wednesdays, aiming to lure more movie lovers into theaters during the mid-week lull. Yes, you heard it right—tickets will be half off!

According to a statement released via Bloomberg, this all-day discount will be calculated based on the standard adult evening ticket price. What's even more thrilling is that premium showings, such as IMAX or 4DX, will also enjoy this 50% discount. This is a fantastic deal, especially considering the typically higher cost of IMAX movies, which can be a significant expense for individuals, families, or groups.

The movie industry has faced challenges since the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to a significant drop in ticket sales as people stayed away from theaters. While recovery has been gradual, the industry still hasn't fully bounced back. However, AMC CEO Adam Aron remains optimistic about the future.

Aron noted that while the first quarter saw low box office turnout, which he labeled an "anomaly," the situation has since improved dramatically. The success of films like "A Minecraft Movie" and "Sinners" has seemingly corrected this issue. Since April 1, ticket sales have surged, with "A Minecraft Movie" grossing an impressive $408 million to date, and "Sinners" raking in $215 million and counting.

The summer blockbuster season is just heating up, with eagerly anticipated releases like "Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning" and Disney's live-action "Lilo and Stitch" on the horizon. Additionally, "Superman" and "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" are set to launch in July. These upcoming releases promise to drive even more traffic to the box office, and AMC's new Wednesday discount initiative is poised to boost those numbers even further.
