"Amazon's God of War TV Series Greenlit for Season 2 Pre-Release"
Amazon's highly anticipated God of War TV series, based on the 2018 video game, has yet to premiere, but it's already secured a two-season commitment from the streaming giant. This exciting development comes from the new showrunner, Ronald D. Moore, who stepped in after the departure of Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus.
In a recent interview with Katee Sackhoff, a fellow alum from the acclaimed series Battlestar Galactica, Moore shared insights into his current projects. "Right now, I'm working on an adaptation of a video game called God of War, a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they've asked me to come in," Moore revealed. "So I'm literally in the writer's room, working on that. That's my new thing."
Despite not being an avid gamer, Moore has shown enthusiasm for the project. He amusingly recounted his challenges with modern video game controllers, mentioning classics like Defender, Asteroids, and Centipede. "I took a stab at it, but the controllers threw me. 'Press R1.' Which one's R1? Oh, I'm dead," he quipped.
Moore, who will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner for the God of War series, brings a wealth of experience from his work on iconic shows like Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and the 2000s Battlestar Galactica. Despite the changes in the production team, Sony's Cory Barlog remains on board as an executive producer, ensuring continuity and fidelity to the source material.
While specifics about the series are still under wraps, it's clear that Amazon is betting big on video game adaptations, as evidenced by the quick renewals of series like the Fallout TV show and Secret Level following their successful launches. This trend suggests a promising future for God of War on the streaming platform.
