Application Description

Learn to read by focusing on the sounds letters make, rather than their names.

Learning to read is a journey, and one of the most important steps is understanding that letters represent sounds. This foundational skill helps children begin to decode words and eventually read fluently.

A key part of this process is the role of an adult guiding the child. Through simple exercises and clear examples, the adult can demonstrate how to form sounds with the mouth. The child observes these gestures and learns how to position their lips and tongue to produce each sound correctly.

To begin, we introduce a small set of simple letters from the alphabet—those that are easiest to learn. These letters are used to build familiar words, such as the names of animals and other everyday vocabulary. Importantly, during this phase, the child does not learn the name of the letter, but its sound.

At first, it’s essential for the adult to practice together with the child. Reading is a gradual process, so patience is key. Once the child feels comfortable, they can explore the application independently, while the adult returns occasionally to guide and support.

After some time practicing, adults can move to the “Discover the Word” section and try the following interactive exercise:

1- Ask the child to say the individual sounds of the letters in the word [ttpp].

2- After some repetition, ask: What did you say?

3- Avoid telling the child the word they formed.

By repeating this method, encourage the child to blend the sounds more quickly. As the pause between each letter becomes shorter, they will naturally start to read. One day, when asked what they said, the child might proudly respond: I said [ttpp]! That moment marks a breakthrough—the child has taken their first step into reading.

As progress continues, you’ll likely notice growing curiosity about words. This is the perfect time to slowly introduce more complex letter combinations. For example, the letter C can have different sounds—soft as in "sky" or hard as in "house"—depending on its context. Gradually, the rest of the alphabet and more advanced phonics can be introduced. Remember, it's crucial to respect each child’s unique pace and learning journey.
