The storyline in Monster Hunter Wilds may be clichéd and unengaging, but that's not what fans come for. The protagonist, now able to speak, navigates through dialogues that feel somewhat AI-generated across six in-game chapters. Yet, it's the intense and thrilling battles with a variety of unique monsters that truly define the game.

Players, choosing either a male or female protagonist, embark on an expedition to explore uncharted lands, spurred by the discovery of a child named Nata in the desert. This boy, the lone survivor of a tribe attacked by the mysterious "White Ghost," suggests these lands are not as uninhabited as previously thought.

While the story attempts to add dramatic elements, it can come across as absurd, especially with the locals' bewilderment at the protagonist's use of weapons. Despite a more structured and detailed narrative, the game doesn't fully embrace a story-driven format. Additionally, the linearity of the narrative might feel restrictive after about ten hours of gameplay.

Completing the campaign takes approximately 15–20 hours, and for those focused on hunting and exploration, the story can feel more like a hurdle. Fortunately, most dialogues and cutscenes can be skipped, a feature I greatly appreciate.

Hunting mechanics have been streamlined for Monster Hunter Wilds. Hitting a monster now visibly wounds it, and by targeting these wounds, players can deal massive damage and collect parts automatically. This is a welcome simplification that enhances gameplay.
A new feature, rideable pets called Seikret, allows for swift movement across the map or towards your hunting target. If you're knocked down, Seikret can swiftly pick you up, saving you from lengthy recovery and potentially fatal attacks. This feature has been a lifesaver for me, particularly when my health is low.

Seikret's ability to automatically navigate to destinations also eliminates the need for constant map-checking. Fast travel to camps is another convenient feature that enhances the overall gameplay experience.

Monsters in Wilds don't have visible health bars, requiring players to interpret their movements and sounds to gauge their condition. Your pet will announce the monster's state, adding a helpful layer of information. Monsters now use environmental tactics more frequently, and some form packs, necessitating strategic combat. In challenging situations, you can call for backup from other players or NPCs, making the hunting experience more enjoyable and efficient.

For those seeking a greater challenge, mods can be installed to adjust the game's difficulty.
