Transformers: Reactivate Canceled by Splash Damage

Transformers: Reactivate Officially Cancelled by Splash Damage

After a prolonged and challenging development, Splash Damage has announced the cancellation of its Transformers: Reactivate project. This decision, while difficult, may unfortunately result in staff layoffs.

The game, initially unveiled at The Game Awards 2022, was envisioned as a 1-4 player online experience pitting Autobots and Decepticons against a new alien threat. Leaks and early toy releases hinted at a roster featuring Generation 1 characters like Ironhide, Hot Rod, Starscream, and Soundwave, with potential appearances by Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and even Beast Wars characters. However, these plans are now defunct.

Splash Damage's announcement acknowledged the dedication of the development team and expressed gratitude for Hasbro's support. Fan reactions are varied, with some expressing disappointment, while others anticipated the cancellation given the lack of updates since the 2022 trailer.

The studio's focus is shifting to "Project Astrid," a AAA open-world survival game built using Unreal Engine 5, a project they announced in March 2023 in collaboration with streamers Shroud and Sacriel. While "Project Astrid" will absorb resources, the cancellation of Transformers: Reactivate will unfortunately lead to job losses within Splash Damage. The Transformers fanbase remains without a new AAA title.

In short:

  • Cancellation: Transformers: Reactivate is cancelled.
  • Layoffs: Potential staff reductions at Splash Damage.
  • Future Focus: Splash Damage is now concentrating on the Unreal Engine 5 open-world survival game, "Project Astrid."
