Stardew Valley: How To Get & Use The Crystalarium

by Lucas Mar 19,2025

Stardew Valley offers more than just farming; it's about building a thriving farm and maximizing profits. Beyond crops and livestock, valuable items like gemstones play a crucial role. Gemstones are not only beautiful and valuable for sale, but also essential crafting components and thoughtful gifts.

However, tirelessly mining for rare gemstones can be time-consuming. That's where the Crystalarium shines. This ingenious device allows you to exponentially increase your gemstone yield from a single specimen. This guide will show you how to harness its power.

Updated January 6, 2025, by Demaris Oxman: Stardew Valley's 1.6 update introduced subtle changes affecting high-level items like the Crystalarium, particularly its movement and gem swapping mechanics. This guide reflects these updates.

Obtaining a Crystalarium

Crystalarium

Unlocking the Crystalarium recipe requires reaching Mining Level 9. Crafting it demands:

  • 99 Stone Stone: Easily found by breaking rocks on your farm or in the Mines.
  • 5 Gold Bar Gold Bars: Smelt Gold Ore (found at mine levels 80 and below) using a Furnace and Coal.
  • 2 Iridium Bar Iridium Bars: Mine Iridium in Skull Cavern or obtain it daily from the Statue of Perfection. Smelt Iridium Ore into bars using a Furnace.
  • 1 Battery Pack Battery Pack: Place lightning rods outside during thunderstorms to collect charged battery packs.

Alternatively, you can obtain a Crystalarium by:

  • Completing the 25,000g Community Center bundle in the Vault.
  • Donating at least 50 minerals (gemstones or geodes) to the Museum.

Using the Crystalarium

Place your Crystalarium anywhere – indoors or outdoors. The Quarry is a popular choice for creating a large-scale operation. It replicates any mineral or gemstone (except Prismatic Shards).

Quartz has the shortest growth time but low value. Diamonds offer the highest profit despite their 5-day growth period.

To move a Crystalarium, hit it with an axe or pickaxe. The current gem will drop if it's actively producing. To change the gem type, simply place a new gem into the Crystalarium while it's running; the old gem will be ejected.

With a few gems and some patience, you'll significantly boost your profits and become a beloved figure in Pelican Town thanks to those generous diamond gifts!
