Retro Royale Mode Returns to Clash Royale

by Alexis May 22,2025

Supercell is dialing back the clock with the exciting new Retro Royale Mode in Clash Royale, taking players straight back to 2017. This limited-time event, running from March 12th to the 26th, offers a nostalgic twist along with enticing new rewards. As you engage in the Retro Royale Mode, you'll climb a 30-step ladder, earning Gold and Season Tokens with each ascent.

Supercell's strategy of refreshing their top games has kept them at the forefront of the mobile gaming industry. While I recently discussed the removal of Troop Training times in Clash of Clans, it's clear that Clash Royale is also getting a significant update. To celebrate its latest anniversary, Supercell is reintroducing the launch meta and cards from 2017. The Retro Royale mode, showcased in a captivating trailer, limits players to a pool of 80 cards as they compete on the Retro Ladder.

As you progress through the ranks, the competition intensifies. Upon reaching the Competitive League, your starting rank will be determined by your progress on the Trophy Road. From there, your performance in Retro Royale will be crucial as you strive to climb the leaderboard and showcase your timeless skills.

It's a fascinating twist that, just after I highlighted Supercell's efforts to keep their games fresh, they introduce a mode that evokes nostalgia. Yet, there's a clear distinction between feeling dated and nostalgic, and with the rewards on offer, it's easy to see why fans will be eager to dive in. And don't forget, by competing at least once in both the Retro Ladder and the Competitive League, you'll earn a special badge for each.
