Path of Exile 2: Sustaining Waystones in Maps
Quick Links
Transitioning from the campaign to the endgame in Path of Exile 2 can be daunting, especially when it comes to mapping and managing Waystones. Running low on these crucial items, particularly at higher tiers, can hinder your progress and enjoyment. However, with the right strategies, you can maintain a steady supply of Waystones and enjoy a smoother endgame experience. Here's how you can keep those Waystones flowing.
Prioritize Boss Maps on the Atlas
To ensure a steady stream of Waystones, focus on using your highest rarity Waystones on Boss map nodes within the endgame Atlas. Bosses have a high probability of dropping Waystones upon defeat. If you're short on high-tier maps, use lower-tier ones to reach Boss nodes and reserve your higher-tier Waystones for the actual Boss fights. This approach often results in obtaining Waystones of equivalent or higher levels, sometimes even multiple at once.
Spend Currency On Waystones
It's tempting to save your
Regal Orbs and
Exalted Orbs for trading or crafting, but investing them in enhancing your Waystones is crucial. Consider Waystones as an investment; the more you put into them, the more you'll get back, provided you survive. Here's how to strategically spend currency on Waystones:
- Tier 1-5 Waystones: Upgrade to Magic items using
Orb of Augmentation or
Orb of Transmutation.
- Tier 6-10 Waystones: Enhance to Rare items with Regal Orbs.
- Tier 11-16 Waystones: Maximize their potential with Regal Orbs, Exalted Orbs,
Vaal Orbs, and Delirium Instills.
Focus on these key stats to maximize your mapping efficiency:
- Increased Waystone Drop Chance: Aim for at least 200%.
- Increased Rarity of Items Found in this Area.
Additionally, prioritize modifiers that increase the number of monsters, especially rare ones.
If items aren't selling on trade for Exalted Orbs, list them for Regal Orbs instead. They tend to sell faster, providing you with more usable currency.
Take Waystone Drop Chance Atlas Skill Tree Nodes
As you advance through Waystone tiers and complete Doryani's quest, you'll earn Atlas skill tree points. Utilizing these points effectively is essential for sustaining Waystones in the endgame. Here are three nodes you should prioritize if you're struggling with Waystones:
- Constant Crossroads: Boosts the quantity of Waystones found in your maps by 20%.
- Fortunate Path: Increases the rarity of Waystones found in your maps by 100%.
- The High Road: Grants a 20% chance for Waystones found to be one tier higher.
These nodes become accessible by the time you reach Tier 4 maps. Don't hesitate to respec your Atlas Skill tree if needed; gold is plentiful, but Waystones are not.
Finalize Your Build Before Doing Tier 5+ Maps
One common reason players run out of Waystones is because their build isn't optimized for the endgame. If you're dying frequently to bosses, rares, or even regular mobs, it's time to refine your build. Don't shy away from consulting a build guide for your class and respeccing accordingly. No amount of Waystone drop chance or increased monster spawns will help if you're not surviving in maps.
Remember, what worked during the campaign may not suffice for endgame mapping.
Use Precursor Tablets
Precursor Tablets can significantly enhance the rarity and number of monsters in your maps, along with additional modifiers when used at towers. A lesser-known trick is stacking these effects by using multiple Tablets on nearby towers, resulting in maps with amplified benefits. Start using these Tablets as early as Tier 5+ maps, rather than hoarding them.
Buy Waystones on the Trade Site
Despite all your efforts, you might still find yourself short on Waystones due to bad luck. In such cases, don't hesitate to use the trade site to replenish your supply. Typically, Waystones of all tiers cost around 1 Exalted Orb, though sub-Tier 10 Waystones might be cheaper. If you're buying in bulk, utilize the in-game trade channel by typing
/trade 1
in the chat box to access the most active trade channel.
