Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Reportedly Won’t Make 2026, Neil Druckmann Tells IGN ‘We Are Playing It at the Office and It's Incredible’

With the wait for *The Witcher 4* extending into 2027, fans of Naughty Dog's newly announced *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet* face a similar anticipation period. Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier confirmed on ResetEra that neither game will hit the shelves next year, indicating that *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet* won't be available before 2027 at the earliest. This raises questions about its target platform—whether it's the PlayStation 5, the forthcoming PlayStation 6, or possibly a cross-gen title.

If *Intergalactic* is launched directly on the PS6, Naughty Dog would effectively bypass the PS5 generation for new titles. To date, the studio has focused on releasing ports, remasters, and remakes for the current-gen console, such as *The Last of Us Part II*, *Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection*, *The Last of Us Part I*, and *The Last of Us Part II Remastered*.

*Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet* was unveiled at The Game Awards 2024, boasting an impressive cast including Tati Gabrielle from the Uncharted movie, who plays protagonist Jordan A. Mun, and Kumail Nanjiani of Marvel's *Eternals*, portraying Colin Graves. Fans have meticulously analyzed the trailer to uncover more about the cast, with a photo revealing additional crew members.

Earlier this month, *The Last of Us* director Neil Druckmann shared further insights into *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet*. In an interview with Alex Garland, the writer behind the zombie movie *28 Days Later*, Druckmann discussed the game's development, which has been ongoing for four years. He humorously reflected on the backlash faced with *The Last of Us Part II* and Garland's nonchalant response, "Who gives a shit?"

Druckmann revealed that *Intergalactic* aims to explore themes less controversial than those in *The Last of Us Part II*, focusing instead on faith and religion. The game is set in an alternate historical timeline where a significant religion has evolved over time. The narrative follows a bounty hunter, Jordan A. Mun, who crash-lands on a planet that has been out of contact for centuries. Druckmann emphasized the game's unique approach, where the player will be isolated and must unravel the planet's mysterious history to find a way to escape.

Assuming *Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet* launches in 2027, and considering Druckmann's comment about four years of development so far, the game will have been in development for a total of six years by its release. While the wait is long, Druckmann shared with IGN on the red carpet before *The Last of Us Season 2* premiere that the game is not only playable but "really good." He teased that the gameplay experienced at the office is "incredible," hinting at the depth of the game beyond what has been shown so far.
