Harrison Ford: AI Not Needed to Capture My Soul, Proves 'Indiana Jones and the Great Circle'

Harrison Ford, the iconic actor behind Indiana Jones, has expressed his satisfaction with Troy Baker's portrayal of the legendary character in the video game "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle." In an interview with The Wall Street Journal Magazine, Ford humorously remarked, "You don’t need artificial intelligence to steal my soul. You can already do it for nickels and dimes with good ideas and talent." He praised Baker's performance, emphasizing that it was achieved without the use of AI.

"Indiana Jones and the Great Circle," released in December, is described as an "authentic" yet potentially non-canonical addition to the beloved series. This comes after the 2023 film "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," which did not meet critical acclaim. The positive reception of the game might encourage the franchise's creatives to explore new directions rather than relying on Ford to reprise his role.

Ford, known for his roles in Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and soon to be seen in Marvel projects, joins a growing chorus of artists critical of AI's use in media. Notable figures like Tim Burton, who finds AI-generated art "very disturbing," and Nicolas Cage, who labels it a "dead end," share similar sentiments. Voice actors have also voiced their concerns, with Ned Luke of Grand Theft Auto 5 fame calling out a chatbot that used his voice without consent. Doug Cockle, known for his work on The Witcher, told IGN that while AI is "inevitable," it is also "dangerous," echoing Luke's worry that such technologies could rob voice actors of their livelihoods.
