"Back to the Future Screenwriter: No Prequels, Spinoffs, or Sequels Ever"
Fans of the beloved Back to the Future franchise have been buzzing with excitement and speculation following the success of the Cobra Kai TV series, which revived the Karate Kid universe. However, Bob Gale, one of the screenwriters behind the iconic Robert Zemeckis-directed Back to the Future trilogy, has put an end to any hopes of a revival. "I don't know why they keep talking about that!" Gale exclaimed to People magazine. "I mean, do they think that if they say it enough times, we're going to actually do it?"
Gale was firm in his stance, shutting down any inquiries about potential new projects. "‘When is there going to be a Back to the Future 4?’ Never. ‘When is there going to be a prequel?’ Never. ‘When is there going to be a spinoff?’ Never. It's just fine the way it is. It's not perfect, but as Bob Zemeckis used to say, ‘It's perfect enough.’"

While Gale's words carry significant weight, the power of Hollywood could potentially override his sentiments if a revival were to be greenlit. However, executive producer Steven Spielberg would need to approve any such project, and Gale believes this is unlikely. "If the juggernaut of corporate America or corporate international mishigas says, ‘If you don't agree to this, we're going to kill your children,’ alright, well, no, we don't want our children killed,’" Gale quipped. He further emphasized Spielberg's respect for their stance, stating, "Steven, just like Steven won't allow another E.T., he totally respects the fact that we don't want any more Back to the Future. He gets it and always stood behind that. And thank you, Steven."
Gale's recent comments align with his past statements on the matter. In February, he delivered a blunt message to fans hoping for a Back to the Future 4: "People always say, ‘When are you going to do Back to the Future 4?' And we say, ‘F**k you.'"
The original Back to the Future film, released in 1985, follows high school student Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) as he is accidentally sent back in time by the eccentric scientist Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd). This classic film became one of the most iconic sci-fi movies of all time and led to two successful sequels.
