The Last of Us Part 2 PC Port Will Require PSN Account

The Last of Us Part II Remastered's PC release on April 3rd, 2025, sparks controversy due to its PlayStation Network (PSN) account requirement. While bringing the acclaimed sequel to PC is a positive step, forcing players to create or link a PSN account, even for a single-player title, is generating backlash.

This requirement, already present in other PlayStation PC ports, has previously led to strong negative reactions, notably resulting in Sony removing the PSN mandate from Helldivers 2 before its implementation. The Steam page for The Last of Us Part II Remastered clearly states the PSN requirement, allowing players to link existing accounts.

While PSN integration might be justified for multiplayer features or overlays (as seen in Ghost of Tsushima's PC port), its necessity for a single-player experience like The Last of Us Part II is questionable. This move is likely a strategic attempt to expand Sony's user base, but it risks alienating PC gamers.

The free PSN account creation process, while straightforward, still adds an extra step and presents a barrier for some. The unavailability of PSN in certain regions further restricts access, contradicting the accessibility often associated with the Last of Us franchise. This requirement may ultimately impact the game's reception among PC players.
