Warner Bros. Closes

Warner Bros. Games is shutting down Mortal Kombat: Onslaught less than a year after its release. The mobile game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on July 22nd, 2024. Read on for details on the game's closure.

In-game purchases will be disabled starting August 23rd, 2024, but players can continue playing until October 21st, 2024, when the servers will be permanently shut down.

The exact reasons for the shutdown remain undisclosed. However, NetherRealm's recent closure of its mobile games division (which also handled Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice) suggests a potential shift in the company's mobile gaming strategy.

What Happens to In-Game Purchases?

The developers haven't yet commented on refunds for in-game purchases. They've promised further information soon; follow their official X (formerly Twitter) account for updates.

Launched in October 2023 to commemorate the franchise's 30th anniversary (and announced the previous October), Mortal Kombat: Onslaught offered a unique take on the Mortal Kombat universe. Unlike previous entries, it wasn't solely focused on fighting.

Instead, it blended action-adventure combat with a cinematic storyline, resembling free-to-play mobile MOBAs. The narrative centered on Raiden and the player's team thwarting the fallen Elder God Shinnok's power grab.
