Space Marine 2 Dev Clarifies: No Abandonment Despite Space Marine 3 News

by Audrey May 13,2025

The unexpected announcement of the development of Space Marine 3 sent ripples of excitement and concern through the Warhammer 40,000 community. Publisher Focus Entertainment and developer Saber Interactive made this announcement in mid-March, a mere six months after the release of Space Marine 2. This timing raised questions about the ongoing support for the existing game.

In a reassuring blog post, both companies addressed these concerns, emphasizing their commitment to Space Marine 2. They stated, "Mid-March, we announced that Space Marine 3 had begun development and we’re excited to see your enthusiasm, although we hear those of you who fear for Space Marine 2 and its future support. So let us set the record straight: Space Marine 3 does not mean the end of Space Marine 2's development. Far from it. No teams are shifting over, no one is abandoning the game, and our plans to bring more awesome content to Space Marine 2 remain."

The companies outlined their plans for Space Marine 2, confirming that the year one roadmap is still on track. Patch 7 is scheduled for release in mid-April, and players can look forward to new content in the coming months, including a new class, new PvE operations, and new melee weapons. The statement teased, "Trust us, there are surprises even dataminers haven’t found out about :)."

Space Marine 3, described as a project years away from release, marks the beginning of a new chapter. The announcement has been met with enthusiasm, with the companies expressing gratitude for the community's support. "Many of you were very excited for this project and this makes us incredibly happy and motivated. Thank you for the unwavering support. That being said, we still have a lot to offer to the players with Space Marine 2."

The big reveal for Space Marine 2 includes a new class, speculated by fans to be either an Apothecary, akin to a medic class, or a Librarian, introducing warp-powered space magic. Additionally, a new melee weapon has sparked interest, with fans particularly excited about the possibility of incorporating the axe featured in Secret Level’s Warhammer 40,000 animated episode. This enthusiasm led modders to create their own versions of the weapon.

The decision to proceed with Space Marine 3 comes on the heels of Space Marine 2's success. In an interview with IGN following the launch of Space Marine 2, Saber Interactive's Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits discussed potential story DLC and hinted at ideas for Space Marine 3. He noted, "Our game director Dmitry Grigorenko, he has proposed some story ideas that could either be DLC or a sequel. Yes, yes, yes! There's so many different factions... there are other chapters, too, that are interesting..." This suggests that Space Marine 3 will continue the narrative, with IGN reporting on the likely enemy faction to be featured.
