Skull and Bones Adds Land Combat This Fall: Ubisoft Reveals Year 2 Plans

by Eric May 14,2025

Ubisoft is setting sail to make Skull and Bones Year 2 the most expansive yet for the pirate multiplayer game, with exciting additions like new modes, ships, a legendary Kraken, and the much-anticipated land combat that fans have been eager for since the game's debut.

In a special Year 2 showcase that aired yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled a wealth of content planned for the upcoming year. The highlight, Season 3: Guts and Glory, set to launch this fall, will finally introduce the long-awaited land combat feature. Players will be able to step away from the sea to engage in thrilling sword fights and gun battles on land. This feature is part of the Rogue Warlord additions, allowing players to explore sandy beaches and damp caves to recruit skilled crew members called Officers. A teaser video offered a glimpse of what to expect, though full details will be revealed later this year.

While land combat is the marquee addition for Skull and Bones Year 2, the showcase revealed plenty more to keep players engaged throughout 2025. Season 1, Ascent into Chaos, which launches today, April 15, introduces an item ascension feature to enhance loot, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the Death Tides PvP mode for team-based action. Season 2: Oaths of War, arriving in summer 2025, will feature Megaforts and the imposing Frigate large ships. Finally, Season 4: Eye of the Beast, set for this winter, will unveil the fearsome Kraken, the Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship.

If the array of new content piques your interest, you're in luck. Skull and Bones will offer a free weekend from April 17 – 21, giving players a chance to dive into pirate PvP action and possibly purchase the game at a discounted price (details yet to be announced).

Skull and Bones launched on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, earning a 7/10 in our review. Although Ubisoft has been tight-lipped about official sales figures, they did note that the game achieved "record player engagement" shortly after its release. Interestingly, the launch also spurred a 200% increase in players for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
