Silent Hill 2 Remake developers dream of a horror in the “Lord of the Rings” universe
Bloober Team, the studio behind the well-received Silent Hill 2 Remake, recently revealed a fascinating concept: a Lord of the Rings survival horror game. Game director Mateusz Lenart, speaking on the Bonfire Conversations podcast, shared that the studio explored this dark, Middle-earth-set project.
Unfortunately, securing the rights to the Lord of the Rings franchise proved impossible, leaving the concept unrealized. However, fans remain enthusiastic about the potential, citing the rich, dark elements within Tolkien's works as ideal for a chilling survival horror experience.
Currently, Bloober Team's focus is on their new title, Cronos: The New Dawn, and potential future collaborations with Konami on Silent Hill projects. Whether the studio will revisit the Lord of the Rings horror idea remains uncertain, but the prospect of a game featuring terrifying imagery of Nazgûl or Gollum certainly sparks the imagination.
