Mackenyu will provide both the Japanese and English voice acting for Gennojo, a pivotal character within Assassin's Creed Shadows' feudal Japan setting. Ubisoft describes Gennojo as a complex individual: a charming rogue with a reckless streak, driven by guilt and a desire to reform a corrupt system. He's a skilled trickster, balancing wit and deception with a surprising sense of justice, particularly towards the vulnerable.

While the exact timing of Gennojo's appearance remains undisclosed, his role in key missions is confirmed. Mackenyu himself revealed that Gennojo belongs to a group called the "Shinobi League" and can essentially be recruited as a companion, aiding the player throughout their journey.
