"Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Delay Affects Canada Due to Tariffs"

by Simon May 18,2025

Gamers were thrown into a state of frustration last week when the Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to an indefinite "who knows when?" This change was triggered by import tariffs implemented by President Trump, causing a ripple effect that crossed borders. Nintendo Canada has also confirmed that pre-orders in Canada are now delayed, dashing hopes of securing one through a relative in Winnipeg.

"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025, in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.," stated Nintendo of Canada in a release to Canadian tech site MobileSyrup.

"Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged."

Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025, in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, is unchanged.

With the original pre-order date looming tomorrow, there's still no clarity on when eager fans can begin the frantic process of securing their units, leaving gamers in limbo and anxious about potential price hikes from the initially announced $449.99.

In other regions, the situation varies. Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have already commenced in the UK today, with smaller outlets like EE, GAME, and Smyths rapidly selling out. Scalpers have quickly jumped on eBay, listing pre-orders for as much as £500 ($639), significantly above the retail price of £395.99 ($506).
