Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons: Potential Mouse Functionality Revealed?

Recent circumstantial evidence suggests the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons may offer a novel functionality: the ability to operate as computer mice. While the widespread adoption of this feature by game developers remains uncertain, it aligns with Nintendo's history of innovative controller experimentation.

The evidence comes from Famiboards user LiC, who previously analyzed Vietnamese customs data related to a suspected Nintendo parts supplier. This data source has yielded numerous Switch 2 rumors since mid-2024.

In early January 2025, LiC revealed further findings: shipping manifests mentioning polyethylene (PE) adhesive tape described as "mouse soles" and intended "to stick to game console handles." This terminology, typically associated with computer mice, hints at potential mouse-like functionality in the Switch 2 Joy-Cons.

Two "mouse sole" model numbers, LG7 and SML7, were referenced. These numbers haven't been found in public component databases, suggesting they are new, unreleased products. The listed size, 90 x 90mm, is large enough to cover the Joy-Cons' backs, potentially requiring trimming during assembly.

Not a First for Handhelds

While unconventional, a mouse-like controller mode isn't unprecedented. The Lenovo Legion GO, released in 2023, features a right controller that functions as a mouse when rotated sideways. Lenovo even includes a plastic housing to aid smooth surface movement.

The Legion GO also boasts magnetic controller rails—a feature rumored for the Switch 2. This similarity further fuels speculation about the Switch 2's design and potential capabilities.
