Sid Meier's Civilization VII: A VR Revolution on Meta Quest 3

Civilization VII (Civ VII) is making waves in the gaming world with its upcoming VR release, exclusively launching on the Meta Quest 3 and 3S headsets this Spring 2025. This marks the franchise's first foray into virtual and mixed reality.

Meta Quest 3 Exclusivity:

2K Games and Firaxis Games announced the exciting news during the Civ World Summit Event on February 8, 2025. Dennis Shirk, Executive Franchise Producer, expressed enthusiasm for this new era of strategic gameplay. Meta's Chris Pruett, Director of Games, highlighted the significance of Civ VII VR within Meta's expanding mixed reality portfolio, emphasizing its appeal to dedicated strategy gamers. Note that, while Civ VII will be available on PlayStation consoles, the VR version will not be on PSVR2.

Immersive Gameplay and Multiplayer:

Civ VII VR immerses players in a dynamic command table environment, allowing for detailed interaction with the game world. Players can switch seamlessly between virtual reality and mixed reality modes, enjoying personalized vistas in VR and adaptable table placements in MR.

The game offers single-player, co-op, and competitive multiplayer for up to four players using Meta Quest 3/3S headsets. Players can team up against AI or compete head-to-head, all while seeing their fellow players' avatars as their chosen world leaders. Online multiplayer requires both a 2K and Meta account.

Addressing Player Feedback:

Firaxis Games actively responded to player feedback from the early access period (February 6, 2025, for Deluxe and Founder's Editions). Their focus is on significant UI improvements to enhance user experience, addressing concerns about map readability and information accessibility. Future updates will also include community-requested features like multiplayer teams and expanded map variety. A quality-of-life update in March is planned, focusing on UI refinements, AI balancing, diplomacy adjustments, and bug fixes.
