"Mastering Quematrice Capture in Monster Hunter Wilds"

by Peyton May 13,2025

Ready to take on the fearsome Quematrice in *Monster Hunter Wilds* without getting scorched or losing your precious meat? We've got you covered with a comprehensive guide on how to exploit its weaknesses, devise effective strategies, dodge its deadly attacks, and not just defeat, but also capture this fiery beast.

How to Beat Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds

The Quematrice, a giant chicken-like monster reminiscent of the Cockatrice, is fortunately less petrifying as it only breathes fire. As a mid-sized monster, it's vulnerable to a variety of weapons, though ranged weapons might be preferable due to its area-based attacks.

When it comes to its attacks, be wary of the tail strikes and sweeps, but the tail slam is particularly dangerous, especially when you're positioned behind it. The Quematrice raises its tail high before slamming it down, so sidestepping or blocking is key to avoiding damage. Its fire-based attacks are the real threat, capable of not only dealing immediate damage but also igniting you and the ground, causing continuous health drain. These attacks can be sudden, with the Quematrice rearing its head and roaring before spewing flames from its tail or sweeping a fiery arc around it. During a charge, it might turn at the last moment to hurl fire at you. If you're using ranged weapons, start moving backward as it begins these maneuvers to stay safe.

How to Capture Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds

Capturing the Quematrice requires preparation. Equip yourself with a Shock Trap and a Pitfall Trap, along with at least two Tranq Bombs. While one trap is sufficient, having a backup is crucial in *Monster Hunter* games, especially if the Quematrice attempts to escape or another monster interferes.

Once the Quematrice is weakened to the point of limping, or if you notice the skull icon repeatedly appearing and disappearing on the mini-map, it's time to set a trap. Ideally, wait until it has moved to a new area after limping away, as this simplifies the process. Place your trap, lure the Quematrice into it, and then throw two Tranq Bombs to secure your capture.
