Marvel Rivals Rank Reset Mid-Season Proves Too Controversial, Prompting Reversal
Marvel Rivals Reverses Controversial Mid-Season Rank Reset Decision
Following significant player backlash, Marvel Rivals has retracted its plan for mid-season rank resets. The developer announced the reversal in Dev Talk 11, a swift response to the negative reaction generated by Dev Talk 10, which detailed a system dropping players four divisions mid-season, every 45 days.
The community voiced concerns about the demotivating effect of such frequent resets, particularly for players actively climbing the ranks. In a significant change of course, Marvel Rivals confirmed that no mid-season rank reset will occur. Players will retain their current rank and score from the first half of the season. However, the end-of-season reset, which drops players six divisions, remains in place.
New Heroes and Continued Updates
Despite the rank reset reversal, other planned updates are proceeding as scheduled. The highly anticipated addition of Human Torch and The Thing, expanding the hero roster to 39, is still on track. NetEase Games' commitment to releasing two new playable characters per three-month season remains unchanged.
Reward structures for high-ranking players (Gold and above) also remain unaffected. Players achieving Gold rank or higher will receive a free Invisible Woman costume, while Grandmaster and above will receive Crests of Honor. Additional rewards, including another free costume and Crests of Honor for Grandmaster and above, will be awarded at the season's end. Balance adjustments are also planned for a post-mid-season update, though specifics are yet to be revealed.
Community Engagement and Rapid Response
Marvel Rivals highlighted its responsiveness to player feedback, emphasizing its commitment to community engagement. The developer's rapid turnaround – addressing concerns and issuing Dev Talk 11 just hours after Dev Talk 10 – demonstrated a willingness to listen and adapt to player sentiment. The statement emphasized the importance of community input in shaping the game's future.
The mid-season update is scheduled for February 21, 2025. Marvel Rivals is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay tuned for further updates on our Marvel Rivals page.
