Duskbloods' Hub Keeper on Switch 2: A Cute Change Due to Nintendo Partnership

by Olivia Jun 14,2025

FromSoftware has revealed fresh details about *The Duskbloods*, its highly anticipated exclusive title for the Nintendo Switch 2. This collaboration with Nintendo has influenced more than just the game’s direction—it's even shaped the design of the hub area’s keeper, offering a surprisingly charming twist on FromSoft's traditionally dark aesthetic.

During the recent Switch 2 Direct presentation, the trailer for *The Duskbloods* ended with a striking visual: a winged rat adorned with glowing glyphs staring directly into the camera. Naturally, fans were intrigued by this peculiar character—and it turns out, this little creature plays a central role in the game.

In an interview with Nintendo, director Hidetaka Miyazaki confirmed that this character functions similarly to the iconic Fire Keepers from the *Dark Souls* series. "They stay in the hub area and provide players with advice and guidance," Miyazaki explained. "I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in the spirit of the partnership."

When pressed further on what he meant by “Nintendo-esque,” Miyazaki added with a chuckle, "We tried something cute for a change. Although I will say this character is actually an elderly gentleman." A surprising but welcome departure from FromSoftware’s typically somber tone.

The studio has long used shrine keepers as pivotal characters in guiding players through their challenging worlds—figures like Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll have become synonymous with progression and support. Now, with *The Duskbloods*, players will rely on this adorable yet wise winged companion to navigate the game’s mysterious world.

Given that *The Duskbloods* features a PvPvE structure, it remains to be seen exactly how this guide will assist players along their journey. However, Miyazaki teased that the development team has introduced "a lot of new and interesting ideas," promising a gameplay experience full of surprises when the title launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
