Cyberpunk 2077 Lunar DLC: Unreleased Space Expansion Details

Cyberpunk 2077 enthusiasts were once tantalized with the prospect of an expansive DLC set in space, specifically on the Moon, but this ambitious project never came to fruition. Blogger and dataminer SirMZK has delved into the game's code, unearthing leaks and files that reveal CD Projekt RED's original vision for this cosmic expansion.

Within the game's files, there are references to lunar surface maps, distinct zones such as the Exterior Movie Set and Drug Lab, and even a rover model. The Moon location was envisioned to be vast, potentially spanning a quarter of the size of Night City, and designed as an open world. This would have introduced an entirely new dimension to the gameplay, transporting players far beyond the familiar neon-lit streets of Night City.

One of the highlights of the proposed DLC was the Crystal Palace, an elite space station. Although it did not make it into the final game, players can still catch a glimpse of the Crystal Palace in one of the endings, as V looks out of a spaceship window. Additionally, files uncovered a prototype for a zero-gravity bar linked to a cut quest called "201," which was connected to the Arasaka storyline.

Fans remain hopeful that some of these innovative ideas might be repurposed in CD Projekt RED's upcoming project, Orion, which aims to further expand the Cyberpunk universe. However, the studio has not officially confirmed any plans to reuse these concepts.

While the Moon DLC remains a distant dream for now, the unearthed details offer a captivating glimpse into what could have been—a daring venture for Cyberpunk 2077 into uncharted territory, seamlessly blending space exploration with the game's distinctive cyberpunk aesthetic.
