Breaking: 'Warhammer 40,000: Astartes 2' Trailer Resurrected, But Catch Revealed

by Jack Feb 21,2025

Games Workshop's highly anticipated Warhammer 40,000 animation, Astartes 2, has resurfaced with a stunning teaser trailer, captivating fans worldwide. However, a significant caveat exists: none of the footage in the teaser will actually appear in the final animation.

Astartes 2 serves as the sequel to the acclaimed fan-made original, created by Syama Pedersen. Widely regarded as the pinnacle of Warhammer 40,000 animation, it's only rivaled by Amazon's recent Space Marine 2 short for the Secret Level anthology. Astartes' success even inspired Saber Interactive's immensely popular Space Marine 2 video game, leading Games Workshop to recruit Pedersen for the sequel.

After years of silence, the January 29th release of the teaser trailer came as a welcome surprise. The trailer showcases breathtaking visuals, depicting never-before-seen scale and quality in Warhammer 40,000 animation, featuring intense melee combat, ranged firefights, vehicle warfare, and even epic spaceship battles. Various Space Marine chapters clash across diverse environments, facing off against Tyranids, Orks, and Tau.

While the teaser effectively generates hype, Games Workshop clarified on the Warhammer Community website that the footage is not from the actual animation. Instead, it's a compilation of scenes representing the characters' past lives, with a subtle hint at the overarching narrative.

The lack of a disclaimer on the trailer itself is a potential issue, as fans might reasonably assume the depicted scenes will be in Astartes 2. Many may not see the clarifying Warhammer Community post.

Despite this, the teaser fuels speculation. The final image suggests the characters will ultimately join an Inquisition-led Deathwatch Terminator squad.

Meanwhile, Space Marine 2 fans are expressing envy, hoping some of the teaser's elements, particularly the capes, might find their way into the game. Given Saber Interactive's ongoing updates, further inspiration from Astartes seems plausible.
