Alicia Silverstone Returns for Clueless Sequel Series

As if they could resist bringing back Alicia Silverstone in her iconic yellow and plaid ensemble. The beloved actress is set to reprise her role as Cher Horowitz in an eagerly anticipated Clueless sequel series, now in development at Peacock.

According to Variety, the plot details remain under wraps, but we know that Silverstone will star, and the series will continue the narrative from the beloved 1995 film. This project marks a fresh take, distinct from the Clueless spin-off Peacock had planned in 2020.

The creative team behind the series includes Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, renowned for their work on the original Gossip Girl series and its reboot. They will co-write the series alongside Jordan Weiss, and all three will serve as executive producers. Joining them are Amy Heckerling, the original writer-director of Clueless, and Robert Lawrence, the film's original producer. CBS Studios and Universal Television are also on board to produce this exciting new venture.

This isn't the first time Clueless has made the leap to the small screen. After the film's success, a TV version aired on ABC and UPN from 1996 to 1999, with Rachel Blanchard stepping into the role of Cher instead of Silverstone.

Silverstone's recent return to the character in a 2023 Super Bowl commercial for Rakuten shows her eagerness to revisit Cher's world. It's no surprise, given the character's enduring appeal and Silverstone's enthusiastic embrace of the role.
